Android users believed to have greater levels of honesty and humility: It turns out that Android users are far more honest than their iPhone counterparts – a finding that is the result of a study carried by researchers at University of Lincoln’s School of Psychology and Lancaster University.
According to the findings, which are based on answers received from participants through a questionnaire. Researchers asked participants to complete the questionnaire about characteristics they associate with users of each smartphone brand. The study involved two groups of people – one with a strength of 240 while the second group included 530 Android and iOS users.
Researchers revealed in their findings through analysis of answers of the participants from the first group of 240 participants that Android users are perceived to have greater levels of honesty and humility, agreeableness and openness personality traits; however, they are less extroverted than iPhone users.
Answers from the second group indicated that most of the personality stereotypes did not occur in reality, as only honesty and humility was found in greater amounts within Android users.
Findings indicate that women were twice more likely to own an iPhone than an Android Phone. Another interesting find was that Android users avoided similarity than iPhone users. The ‘avoidance of similarity’ describes whether people like having the same products as others. Researchers also found that iPhone users thought it was more important to have a high status phone than Android users.
Based on all the findings, researchers reveal that their study sheds light on the personality differences between different types of smartphone users.
“Imagine if we further researched how personality traits relate to the applications people download. It is becoming more and more apparent that smartphones are becoming a mini digital version of the user, and many of us don’t like it when other people use our phones because it can reveal so much about us,” researchers said.
