Asus ROG G752VY Review: In India, with the launch of the several new products Asus recently updated its gaming arsenal and one of them is the most exciting – ROG i.e. Republic of Gamers G752VY gaming laptop, and this is a top-of-the-line gaming machine that is purpose-built for the most demanding of the games.
Asus ROG G752VY Laptop Review
Asus has always known to craft some pretty good looking products and the new ROG G752VY looks very stunning. The hairline texture on metal body is coupled with the sharp styling and with contrasting orange accents on exhaust all make for a real head-turner. Build quality is also very good.
Look and Feel:
For protecting the display, the lid does a good job and we did not observe any flex. The hinge feels quite durable and the screen can be tilt backwards to about 160 degrees. There is not the much problem of the display as it is of 17.3 inch IPS display with a matte finish. The LED backlit panel produces some punchy colours and some sharp visuals due to its full-HD resolution. Microsoft Windows does not need to bother with the scaling due to the larger size of the display so older programs do not have that fuzzy effect that smaller and the high-resolution displays tend to result in.
For full sized keyboard and for a generous trackpad there is an ample room. The Chiclet keys are comfortable to type. You will also get three levels of backlighting and 30 key rollover. But you cannot change the backlight colour. To bring up the Gaming Centre application Asus gives you a dedicated ROG key in the Number pad cluster.
The macro keys are located above the function keys. The button with video camera on it fires up XSplit Gamecaster application for streaming and recording your gameplay. The trackpad offers a good control.
There are a total of four USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, one USB Type-C port, microphone-in, a line-in port, Mini-DP, headphones/SPIDF out and Gigabit Ethernet. The laptop also gets an SD card slot, a 2.1 speaker system and a DVD writer.
Specifications and Software:
When it comes to the specifications there is nothing less than the best. It has an Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor, two Samsung 256 NVMe SSDs + 1TB hard drive, an Nvidia GTX 980M GPU with dedicated GDDR5 RAM of 4GB and 16GB of RAM. Thanks to the removable flap on the bottom of the laptop that the RAM and storage are easily upgradable. The integrated display runs at 75Hz refresh rate that is higher than usual and it supports Nvidia’s G-SYNC technology. It also includes Bluetooth 4.1, an HD webcam and Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac.
With some promotional offers and freeware the ROG G752GV ships with Windows 10Home 64-bit and a one-month trial of Office 365, McAfee, WPS Office and Foxit Phantom PDF viewer.
Asus also adds some of its own software applications into mix and the main one being the Gaming Centre. You can also view the temperatures and speeds of the GPU and CPU, can launch Asus utilities or customize profiles. The Turbo Gear feature will let you switch between Extreme, Manual and Standard modes.
The Asus ROG G752VY uses one of the SSDs as the boot drive, it means that general Windows performance and boot speed is very good. The second SSD comes for installing games. The laptop runs silent and does not overheat while gaming. The volume level of the speakers is not so great.
The Asus ROG G752VY will cost you Rs. 1,79,990 and this expected from a premium laptop. So at this price you will get a superbly designed chassis, a fantastic gaming performance, good headromm for upgrading the components and a superbly designed chassis. But, there are few things that could have been better.
So at the same price, you can also consider the Acer Predator 15 that comes in the more portable package and it is powerful as the Asus laptop.
