Bad News for Mobile Fans – Sony Company will Defocus on India: Sony Mobile at the recent investor meet has confirmed that it will focus less on the select markets like India, the US and China where its performance has been less than the satisfactory. In these countries Sony expects its smartphone business will grow only 0.3 percent in these markets and it explains its decision to ‘defocus’ on these regions.

Xperia Blog, that got access to the presentations and some other material that Sony shared at the inventory meet it adds that the company now has the regional strategy it means that Sony will target only the regions that are expected to have improved the improves CAGR i.e. compound annual growth rate smartphone growth.
Apart from the China, the US and India, Sony is also said to shrink its smartphone business in Brazil also. According to the report, Sony Mobile will instead look to focus in the East Asia including Japan, Middle East and Europe.
Sony is expected to preserve its Latin American and the other Asia Pacific regions’ point out by the report.
One of the slides also indicate that: Sony’s priority is to focus on the markets where Sony can leverage its strengths to ensure the profitability improvements. In the other slide, the company notes that Sony to maintain its core focus in the high value-added smartphone that are globally limited.
Presentation slide of Sony also hints that the company is expected to face intensified competition in entry and in the mid-tier segments from the Indian and Chinese smartphone players. In the emerging markets Sony also points to growth slowdown in the emerging markets.
Earlier this year Sony introduced an all-new Xperia X series that replaced the earlier flagship Xperia Z series. In May the company was reported to have pulled the plug on the Xperia M and Xperia C series of the smartphones. So it seems that Sony move to kill its Xperia C and M series, which suggests that Sony will focus on the high end segment of the market.
