BlackBerry exploring alternatives to WhatsApp for BlackBerry 10: The Instant Messaging App, WhatsApp, stated in its blogpost that it will be ending its support for BlackBerry devices by the end of 2016.
This news was also confirmed by BlackBerry which said that it is currently looking for alternatives to WhatsApp for its model BlackBerry 10. The Canadian Company told Techradar that, “We are exploring alternatives for BlackBerry users once support of WhatsApp for BBOS and BlackBerry 10 ends in late 2016.”
The alternative that the company will offer has not yet been announced but it is possible that BlackBerry might work out a deal with Facebook, which is the owner of WhatsApp. Facebook might introduce a third party WhatsApp app for the BlackBerry users.
The latest BlackBerry smartphone, Priv, would continue to support WhatsApp because this device runs on Goggle’s Android operating system. According to reports, BlackBerry is now planning to launch more of Android-based smartphones.
WhatsApp will not only be ending its support for BlackBerry devices, but also for smartphones which run on operating systems like Nokia S40, Android 2.1, Nokia Symbian S60, Android 2.2 and Windows Phone 7.1.
WhatsApp acknowledged these mobile devices stating that they have been an important part of their software, but the only problem with these devices, as told by WhatsApp, is that they do not offer the capabilities that the app needs to expand its features in the coming future.
WhatsApp has asked the users of these devices to upgrade or change to the other devices like Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone, to continue using the messaging software. It also mentioned in its blogpost that this was a difficult decision for them to make, but they took this decision in order to provide better ways to the users to keep in touch with their friends, family and loved ones via WhatsApp.
The users must upgrade to the devices like Android, iPhone or Windows Phone before the end of 2016 otherwise they would not be able to access WhatsApp after that.
WhatsApp is an Instant Messaging App which has over 1 billion users and it recently completed its 7th successful year. In February, the company had announced that it had become a part of the 1-billion users club.
