ChampOne C1 specifications are too good to be true! Beware of the likely hoax: Call us suspicious or too harsh, but we are still going to say that the ₹501 ChampOne C1 smartphone is a hoax and that the company behind it will not be able to deliver what it has promised. We are been writing against this smartphone ever since news about it emerged online, and until the smartphone is actually delivered, we will continue to be sceptical on a very high level.

4G LTE connectivity, quad-core 1.3GHz processor, 5.0-inch HD display, 8-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front camera, dual-SIM capabilities, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, 2500mAh battery and availability in three colours – are some of the ChampOne C1 specifications and they are just about impossible to achieve with such a low price tag.

Why? Well consider the cost of the hardware itself. If you convert ₹501 in dollar terms at the exchange rate of ₹67, then you get ~$7.5 (USD). Converting in dollar is mandatory considering that almost all of the hardware components will be procured from silicon heavens like China, and Taiwan and they accept dollars and not Indian rupees. Coming to the point – who in their right minds will sell all these components for $7.5?

Let’s say that the makers of ChampOne C1 somehow manage to procure all the components required to build their smartphone at the USD cost we mentioned. Then who will assemble it for free? That’s the biggest problem according to our analysis. Even the cheapest assembly lines in China charge upwards of $15 for a single phone assembly – that’s twice the cost of the smartphone already. So are these guys getting their smartphones assembled without paying a single penny? China is doing us a favour I guess by providing us free services.

Then there is the major problem of the registration page not working. We have been trying since a couple of days, but the register link doesn’t work. It takes you nowhere. And now today there is warning that reads as below:

“We are facing technical issue with our payment gateway partner [Ccavenue (Avenues India Pvt. Ltd.)]. You would not be able to register for the application for next 24 hours. We sincerely regret for your inconvenience and would try to get it fixed as soon as possible. Thank you for your support.”

Smell a rat? We do!!

Finally, we tried ringing the phone number they have provided on the Contact Us page: “18003132101”. It says it is switch off! How can a toll-free number be switched off?

Conclusion: Don’t fall for the hoax! It is a scam and do not spend a minute thinking about this!
