Allo is an instant messaging app that features the inbuilt Google Assitant and Duo is a video calling app that is claimed to work very well in even on the weak data networks.

Google has decided to bring in the two new apps in the foray, instead of making the hangouts better. Allo and Duo will be going to take on the apps like Facetime, Facebook Messenger, IMO, WhatsApp, Skype, Viber and many more. Google has integrated a few key features that will separate these two apps from the lot to make a mark in this congested market.
Allo is essentially an instant messaging app like all the others. However, it comes with features like Google Assistant integration and Smart Reply to make it stand out better. Smart Reply is a feature that will give you the suggestions of the replies while texting and it was the first seen in the Inbox by Gmail. Users will be able to search theatres, hotels, flights and events from one app without having to leave conversation in between. It also brings in tools like YouTube, Maps and even Translate. The chat apps has some other features like to write on the pictures before sending them on Allo and the ability to increase the size of the text.
Duo calls are in HD. This app also has a feature called knock knock it basically shows you the preview video of the caller, before picking it up. It is fairly a simple app and it will let you to call all the contacts on your phone. Google claims that it will work even on low networks.
By keeping the issue of the privacy and security, Google has introduced end-to-end encryption in the Duo app. With no specific data anoounced these two apps are coming to Android and iOS this summer.
