Google’s report: 4G handset queries up 200 percent in India in 2015

The 4G services are becoming popular in India as a result of telecom operators like Bharti Airtel, Idea and Vodafone who have launched or are planning to launch 4G services in the country by 2015, before the expected launch of 4G services by Reliance Jio.

On one hand Google witnessed an increase in searches for 4G complaint devices, whereas on the other hand it saw a decline by 35 per cent in the searches for 3G complaint device last year.

According to Google’s report, some of the smartphone companies like Micromax and Samsung have declared that they would end their 2G device ranges and would only release 3G and 4G handsets. The report also mentioned that there has been 75 per cent decline in the prices of 4G devices over the last 12 months.

The report also pointed out that these days mobile devices are becoming the most popular platforms for Web browsing and accessing Internet. Mobile Internet is being used for almost everything like, planning events, decorating homes, online shopping, buying groceries, watching videos, downloading songs, watching online movies etc.

Google India’s vice president, Rajan Anandan said that in many cases mobile Internet is beginning to influence and define user’s first experience online.

The services like cab services, digital payments, online banking services, among others, are being widely used by users through mobile Internet. According to reports, 50 per cent of travelling queries and 60 per cent of shopping doubts are made from mobiles. Apart from these, mobile Internet has also become the platform for watching YouTube videos. Even the online job listing service revived with 41 per cent of job related searches being made from mobile phones and tablets. Last year, 50 per cent of women who often shop online purchased beauty products from the online shopping sites.

Smartphones and tablets are becoming the major platforms for internet surfing and most of the online services are being availed from mobile devices.
