Owing to heated topic, many Facebook pages with high followers created campaigns related to cricket. Most engaging contest sought out to be “GUESS WINNER” contest where millions of Facebook users form India participated to support their team. As a case study, one of high response contest was launched by APUS Group of Facebook.

Contest was named as “Predict and Win” whereas winner will get Huawei Honor 5X as gift. Contest originated on APUS Club an InApp location of APUS Launcher with special design and option to select choice of winning team, and also promoted on Facebook to reach fans. This contest was launched with cooperation of Huawei as part of cricket promotion cooperation. Interestingly, most of supporters were responding in favor of India and New Zealand but the game in real world turned to be opposite.

India lost to West Indies and New Zealand lost to England their semifinal match. This was not only sad moment for Indian fans in real game but also most of them lost their contest on Facebook page.IndvsWI 2016

Launching cricket contest during world cup resulted into high engagement on Facebook pages of many companies. Most high rated response was generated from India due to Indian home ground and team India’s participation and performance. It proved to be a good strategy to generate high engagement across social media. While following this trend many other companies started preparing for IPL as next hot trend to follow. Interestingly along with APUS many other Chinese companies are taking high interest in this game and trying to bring more localized aspect to their brands in terms of local branding.
