It was not that long ago that Netflix announced you can now download movies and television shows to watch offline. While this feature was huge and a great announcement for users everywhere, the issue was for Android users that it was hard to download shows due to Android phone storage limitations. Now, the new Netflix app for Android allows you to store these downloaded shows and movies on microSD cards if you have that feature.
Netflix for Android Allows for microSD Storage
We thought it was great when a couple months ago Netflix announced that you could now download television shows and movies onto your Android device so you can watch them while offline. While that was a lot of great news for Android and iOS users all over the place, it led to some people a little annoyed because their Android devices did not have the capabilities to store that many shows or movies. If you think about people who are on an Android device that has only 32G of internal space, this does not leave a lot of room for movies and television shows.
Now, Netflix has announced that the Android app will have the ability to download the movies and television shows to a microSD card if your Android device supports that ability. This is great because now you have the choice to save your downloaded movies and television shows to either your internal storage or external storage.
There is a little bit of bad news here which is that offline content has time limits on it, and the limits depend on which type of content you are downloading. So this means that you cannot just will up your microSD card with television shows and movies and then watch those weeks or months later. The new Netflix Android microSD feature also is not available on all Android devices, regardless of whether or not you do have the microSD slot on your Android device. This new feature is limited right now to specific Android devices, but full support for all Android devices likely will be coming out sometime soon.
The best part about this news is that now you can download these television shows and movies from Netflix right onto the microSD card so that you do not have to worry about deleting content, photos, or apps to make room on your Android device. It is also difficult to know how much room you will need for some shows and movies, which could cause the show or movie to not download completely on your Android device if there is not enough room.
When you think about it, this new feature on the Netflix Android app should be standard across the board for all apps, especially if your Android device supports microSD capabilities. You can download the new Netflix app for Android from the Google Play Store right now. If you already have Netflix on your Android device, you also can wait for the over-the-air update to hit your Android device, which should be coming now or in the next couple days.
