Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Review in First Impression: In the Mobile World Congress 2016, at Barcelona, Samsung had launched its latest flagship- Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. And now both the smartphones have been officially launched in the Indian market and are ready for sale.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Review
Samsung Galaxy S7 has been priced at Rs 48,900, while Galaxy S7 Edge has been priced at Rs 56,900. Both the devices are available in the 32 GB variant and both have the option of expanding the storage via a microSD card.
Here is our review of Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge in first impression.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge measures 7.7mm thick and it offers a 5.1 inch display, whereas Samsung Galaxy S7 is thicker than S7 Edge, measuring 7.9 mm. But in terms of weight S7 is lighter than S7 Edge. The former one weighs 152 grams while the latter weighs 157 grams.
The design and build of Galaxy S7 is not much different from its previous flagship, Galaxy S6. The two major highlights of Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge is, it has IP68 certification which allows the users to submerge the phone under 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes and the other feature of the two devices is that their rear camera does not bulges out and it almost stays even with the rear glass cover.
The volume rocker is present on the left side of the device while the power button is present on the right side. The 3.5mm audio jack is present at the base, along with the speaker, microUSB charging port and the data transfer port. The hybrid SIM slot is present at the top of the smartphone.
The only drawback of Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge’s design is that its glass cover quickly attracts smudges and therefore the users will have to constantly keep cleaning the surfaces.
Coming to the display of the device, Samsung Galaxy S7 offers a 5.1 inch QuadHD Super AMOLED display and it comes with a pixel density of 577ppi. While, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge sports a 5.5 inch QuadHD Super AMOLED display and it offers a pixel density of 534ppi and it also comes with the dual edge curved display.
The overall display is very good on both the phones, the colour reproduction is accurate and sharp but a slight tinge is noticeable when viewed from the side.
Hardware and performance
In the international markets the device comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, whereas in the Indian market the devices will have Samsung’s own Exynos 8890 Soc which comes with 4x Cortex A53 cores and 4x Exynos M1 cores.
The device has 4GB RAM and an inbuilt storage space of 32GB. The storage space can be further expanded up to 128 GB of SDXC storage via an external microSD card slot.
Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge offer a 12 mega pixel main camera and a 5 mega pixel front camera. The cameras come with an aperture of f/1.7 and dual-pixel AF technology and a 12 mega pixel sensor. It will be interesting to see whether the camera of Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will be able to match the standard of Samsung S6’s camera.
The Galaxy S7 comes with a 3000mAh battery and Galaxy S7 Edge offers a 3600mAh battery. Both the batteries are non removable and without using the phone it is difficult to make any comment on the battery life of the device. But the device does have the power saving mode on its TouchWiz UI.
The latest flagship of Samsung claims that it will offer a better camera, efficient battery life and a powerful chipset. The Galaxy S7 has been priced at Rs 48,900 and Galaxy S7 Edge has been priced at Rs 56,900.
Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge will be available for pre order from 8th March till 17th March.
