Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris Review: In India, on Wednesday Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Tab. The new tablet from Samsung is the another ‘Make for India’ product though it is targeted at the enterprise segment as well as the government. One highlight of the Samsung Galaxy Tab is the iris recognition technology.

It is the first device from Samsung that is featuring an iris scanner, that is included to support biometric authentication for the services such as Unique Identification Authority of India i.e. UIDAI or Aadhar authentication.
Samsung stressed at the launch event that the new tablet will offer paperless and cashless services to the various sectors including e-governance and banking. But the tablet won’t be available in the retail for consumers to buy.
On being asked that how the inbuilt biometric technology on the Samsung Galaxy Tab iris will be an advantage to the enterprise and the government sectors then Vice President of Samsung India Sukesh Jain explained that the Galaxy Tab Iris will enable a sector to streamline the process of the authentication for services such as banking and also the process of the government service enrolment for the passport applications, education and taxation.
Sukesh Jain also added that the Galaxy Tab iris will eliminate the need for the paperwork and it can be used for the citizen services such as government schemes like pension disbursement, insurance subscriptions, opening bank accounts and claim settlements: for user ID verification for the telecom services and more.
Along with the iris recognition, Samsung has made Galaxy Tab Iris Aadhar-complaint and the STQC-certified that means it can be used for UIDAI authentication on the right away.
At the event, we got the chance to test iris recognition of the tablet’s for UIDAI authentication. The unit that we used came preloaded with Samsung iris Aadhar app that requires the unique identification number that are linked to the user’s Aadhar app which requires unique identification number linked to the user’s Aadhar cards to authenticate them. The app launched very quickly and after entering the 12-digit unique identification number, it performed iris scan to authenticate the Aadhar card. To scan our iris the app took some time, but the overall was quite easy. At the event the Samsung representative told that the company may support different features that will leverage iris recognition technology as well. To develop Aadhar-complaint apps Samsung will also offer software developer kits i.e. SDKs to its client that will allow the users to authenticate themselves with iris scanner.
The Galaxy Tab Iris tablet will support Samsung’s Knox features and it also comes with the Secure Boot, which the representative explained will protect tablet from the unauthorized rooting attacks. The tablet 3G-enabled tablet will support 14 Indian languages including Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Sinhala, Nepali, Odia, Urdu, Tamil, Bengali, Kannada, Marathi, Assamese, Telugu.
Jain stated that the device can out the e-KYC process out in just few seconds, instead of the day that usually takes. e-KYC is the process that will allow the companies to complete the regular KYC i.e. Know Your Customer process online with direct authorization of the users.

When asked that why Samsung chose to support Aadhar for authentication then Jain explained that it will serve as an important database for the many government-related projects like, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, DigiLocker, National Health Mission and some other Digital India initiatives.
