However, while Samsung and Apple still rule the industry there are some other key players too.
As per a research by Gartner, here are the five biggest smartphone brands of the world. In the first quarter of 2016, the ranking is based on the global sales of the smartphones.
The South Korean smartphone giant i.e. Samsung still continues to rule the smartphone market with approx 81,186,900 units sold during the first quarter. The company held around 23.2% market share, that is marginally down from 24.1% it held during in last year in the same quarter.
While Apple managed to retain the second position in the global smartphone market, but the company witnessed its first double-digit decline by year on year, with the iPhone sales down by around 14% Apple’s new upgrade program in the US has helped it to sweeten its flagships i.e. iPhone 6s and 6s Plus models prices that is driving sales in the company’s largest market.
In the emerging market Apple is also exploring ways to reform second-hand iPhones that are coming through the program.
Huawei is at no.3 position in the Chinese smartphone market. In China, other than witnessing the strong growth, Huawei also saw the strong smartphone demand in Europe i.e. the Africa and Americas.
According to the Gartner, during the first quarter of 2016, the company’s total sales stood at 28,861,000 units and Huawei’s share during the quarter stood at 8.3%
In the first quarter of 2016, Oppo has the best performance, with the unit sales that are growing by 145% like Xiaomi and Huawei, in China Oppo saw strong growth, by taking share from the other players like Samsung, Lenovo and Yulong.
In the Asia-Pacific region the company’s smartphone sales rose by 199% with the 16,112,600 units sold during the quarter.
The Chinese smartphone maker i.e. Xiaomi, just like Oppo and Huawei, Xiaomi too witnessed strong growth in China. In the emerging Asia-Pacific region the company also experienced good demand for its smartphone.
During the quarter, the company’s total smartphone unit sales stood at 15,048,000 units. It’s the global market share during the year stood at around 4.3%.
