When it comes to downloading apps on Android to play media formats, VLC Media Player is one of the best apps out there. Not only can VLC Media Player play all sorts of media formats, but there are a million ways to customize this Android app. Now, there is even going to be 360-degree video support coming to the Android app, and even more capabilities coming to VLC Media Player.

VLC Android App Launching 360 Degree Video Support

If you have not heard of VLC Media Player before, it is one of the biggest open-source software applications ever. This is how VLC Media Player gained a lot of support from Android users, and the fact it can play every media format out there also helped it gain popularity. Even though VLC Media Player has been on Google Play for a long time, over four years, the app still gets updates and new features regularly.

VLC Media Player will be getting 360-degree video support in the next few days, and this is something completely new for the popular media player. Right now, the 360-degree video functionality is limited to just technical versions on Windows and Mac, but the Android app official version will be coming out in merely days. Giroptic helped VLC make this happen, and they are a virtual reality startup out of San Francisco, California. Giroptic is likely most well known for the 360-degree cameras the company sells, and they are helping VLC develop the technology and support for these videos.

Not only is VLC getting 360-degree video support in version 3.0, but VideoLAN is going to develop technology so VLC can end up on the VR headsets. The VR headsets that will soon see VLC Media Player include Google Daydream, Oculus Rift, and the HTC Vive. No official dates for this has been released as of yet, although it is all expected to come out sometime next year. Even though there will be support for the 360-degree videos coming in VLC 3.0, do not expect it to function 100 percent perfectly until next year. The app itself will likely undergo some fixes and changes as the 360-degree video support is added into the app, so in the beginning things might be a little buggy until all of the kinks are worked out. The good news though for VLC Media Player Android users is that 360-degree video support is coming, and it will be an amazing feature added to this already cool and amazing program.
