YouTube unblock in Pakistan and 85 other country finally: YouTube has been unblocked in Pakistan as well as 85 other countries this Monday creating headlines. However, it was blocked only after a different version of it was released by Google which is very strict as far as access to censor content is related. Long back in 2012, Pakistan had banned the access to YouTube after a certain censored video was uploaded. Several countries across the world, including Pakistan, had protested that such videos cause threat to the innocence of Muslims.
The long three years of ban has finally been called off. The ban is expected to be called off within 48 hours of declaration by the government. The government further quoted that YouTube not only contains offensive materials but also contains beneficial videos that can be of great use to the people.
Furthermore, according to the declaration, the Pakistan government is authorized to demand the removal of any content that they feel is offensive or irreverent. According to information provided, it is seen that more than twelve thousand request were made to the company to put down irreverent content in the previous years. The company was able to revolve almost half the demands that they had received.
Pakistan and several other countries had imposed a ban on YouTube. But the citizens of the countries still did not restrain themselves from getting access from it. They managed to get access to YouTube using unfair means and servers. Thus the ban made no practical sense since the population anyway used it.
Not only YouTube, but Pakistan had imposed a ban on other sites like Facebook from time to time, which were called off soon too. Several films were also banned that were against the Muslims or broadcasted anything disrespectful. Movies featuring Prophet Mohammad were also banned and had caused severe riots. Even though several videos that are broadcasted by YouTube are banned in countries like Pakistan, Egypt, Libya etc, they remain uploaded in the rest of the countries. Several times scenarios have turned really ugly in several countries due to some film or video, which had to be banned in the specified regions.
Iran has called off their ban on Twitter as well as YouTube. Although in Iran there are controversies whether the ban has been lifted or not, the people hope for the best. Some users have reported that the sites can be accessed temporarily or only by certain users. Whether the ban is temporary or permanent, only time will tell. Although it is quite unexpected, still it is happening. In the year 2013, in Iran, some users were able to access the sites which were banned for four long years. They ban was however again put into effect the following day.
After the Presidential elections in the year 2009, Iran had banned all the sites since certain controversial contents were broadcasted in the net. However the people managed to get access by the various VPNs.
However after a lot of controversies, Pakistan, Iran and several other countries declared to call off the ban on all the social media sites including YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.
